Comfort in the Discomfort
“Learning how to be still and comfortable in the discomfort of human life is key to a peaceful existence”.
We live in a distracted society. Collectively we are running from one thing to another – busy jobs, children’s activities, addictions to food, alcohol, the internet, social media scrolling, shopping exercise….The list is endless and truly keeps us stuck and spinning on a plane of distracted existence. Of course we cannot just stop working, consuming, connecting, or moving in general but there is a fine line as to when this way greatly interferes with our capacity to feel peaceful in our everyday existence.
There is that point when all of the doing and distractions inhibits the direction of our life force energy and we become addicted to the addictions.
Meditation practice is key to interrupting these cycles and imprinting our systems with a new way of living and being. And, it just that…a practice.
We sit in meditation and we learn how to BE with ourselves. We learn how to sit and breathe with ourselves and all that the human experience brings up. It does not mean that we sit in meditation and all is peaceful and calm. If anything, the opposite occurs. When we sit in meditation and stillness the opportunity arises for everything to arise. When we stop the habitual patterns of being in motion and distracting ourselves with one thing or another, the human psyche can (and will!) go wild with all that has been suppressed.
That is why we must practice frequently, if not daily.
When we sit and commit to our meditation practice we are committing to working with our minds. We are committing to noticing what is surfacing and redirecting the party/chaos/disruption towards peace.
Over and over and over again.
With time and consistency of practice we land in a space of deep self-awareness and are able to bring our meditation practice into our day-to-day lives and interactions. We become our practice. Our practice is deep within us and despite the natural turbulence of the human path we develop the capacity within ourselves to respond, not react. To stay connected to our own truth and not allow others input or opinions to sway us in one direction or another. We tap into that empowerment of being a human and the choice we have in every moment as to how to meet life.
How to embody our lives exactly as we are and how they are right now, today.
