Small Gestures on our Own Behalf
It’s the small gestures on our own behalf that have the greatest impact on our state of being.
It is the micro-moments of our lives, and the choices and gestures that we make in support of our personal evolution and growth, that create the deepest imprint on our state of being.
It’s those moment-by-moment choices to tend to our weary hearts, our aching bodies, our frayed nervous systems that culminate in a magnificent platform of living, being, and relating both to ourselves and the world around us.
Sure, it is wonderful to create opportunities for ourselves to engulf our systems in a more intensive self-care experience, yet, to me, it is how we EMBODY OUR LIVES in everyday, small actions on our own behalf, that have the greatest impact on our capacity for growth, for healing, and for becoming the truth of exactly who we are.
And, some days it is the simple (needed!) gesture of getting out of bed and meeting the day with all that we can muster.
While other days and moments we may be able to tap into our own inner badass and show up empowered, awake, and enlivened.
Each gesture, choice, and action taken in honor of ourselves has impact. Bringing the practices of embodiment into our everyday, messy, human lives is an incredible way of living.
It is a choice, moment-by-moment, to embrace our lives and meet them with a sense of openness, presence, curiosity, love, and unconditional acceptance.
I think often of the days and months that followed after coming home to my house on fire with my then 7-year-old son. The sorting and sifting of our belongings, the upheaval, the kindness and generosity of community, the daze I was dancing in, the raw vulnerability, and the gestures of self-care that were essential for me to be doing so as to keep my head above water and tend to all that needed to be tended to…including staying present with my traumatized son.
Those days brought me to my knees and really affirmed to me the essentialness of meeting our lives in any way that we can….to take care of ourselves in sometimes subtle, yet powerful, ways. And, that truly every action that we take to meet ourselves in the rubble of life’s experiences, creates imprints in our state of being in ways that sometimes we do not see or feel immediately.
